This dirham was minted during the reign of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (1391-1425 AH / 1971-2004 AD). A commemorative dirham was issued to commemorate the selection of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan as the Islamic Personality of the Year by the Dubai International Holy Quran Award in its third edition. The obverse features the 1 dirham note, surrounded by the words “United Arab Emirates” in Arabic and English. It is rarely circulated. The reverse features the award logo below, “1420 AH,” and above, “Third Edition of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award.”
