This coin was minted during the reign of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, who ruled from 2004 to 2022.

The dirham was issued to commemorate the Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic Performance.

The obverse features the 1 dirham note, surrounded by the United Arab Emirates in Arabic and English. It is rarely circulated.

Reverse: The occasion logo is in the center, with the 1998-2007 AD logo underneath. The Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic Performance is written in the margin.
