The banknote was printed during the presidency of Anwar Sadat, who ruled from 1970 to 1981. Obverse: The obverse of the fifty-piaster note features Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo (inset), with the mosque occupying half of the right side of the note. The mosque’s minaret dominates the decorative design at the top of the note. Reverse: An image of King Ramses II holding the scepter of kingship, with the wings of the god Horus displayed outstretched beside his head. It also features Islamic motifs, a quarter-circle in a contrasting green color, and beige paper. |
