This currency was printed during the presidency of Hafez al-Assad, who ruled from 1971 to 2000.

Obverse: Motifs from the ruins of the Ugarit kingdom. The head is on the right, and in the center (its face depicts the goddess Rabba-Ishtar with two children). Above it is written “Central Bank of Syria,” below it “Five Hundred Syrian Pounds,” and in the lower left is the date of issue (1435 AH / 2013 AD).

Reverse: An ancient religious wheel and a clay tablet inscribed with cuneiform script. The words “Central Bank of Syria” are written in English above, and “Five Hundred Syrian Pounds” below.
