The coin was minted during the reign of King George V, who ruled from 1910 to 1936. East Africa was a British protectorate at the time. Obverse: At the top of the circle is the British crown; below it is the inscription “One Cent”; and on the outer circle is the inscription “George V, King of India: Emperor.” Reverse: At the top of the inner circle is written (1) / Around the circle at the bottom is a tusk symbolizing the African environment / At the top of the outer circle is written (East Africa) / At the bottom is written the year of issue 1922 AD.
