This coin is a Sasanian silver dirham from the reign of King Khosrow II (Khosrow II), who ruled between 590 and 628 CE. Obverse: King Khosrow II is depicted wearing his famous crown surmounted by a crescent and star, with crescent and star symbols along the edge of the coin. Reverse: It depicts a traditional Zoroastrian fire altar surrounded by worshippers, along with markings indicating the mint and the year of minting. Historical context: These coins are known to have been widely circulated during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) before the Arabization of coinage during the Umayyad era. |
