This coin was issued by the National Bank of Djibouti during the tenure of President Hassan Gouled, who ruled from 1977 to 1999. Obverse: The national emblem of Djibouti, featuring two hands holding a dagger, surmounted by a star and a spear, and encircled by a laurel wreath; it bears the name of the Republic (REPUBLIQUE DE DJIBOUTI) and the year of issue (1991). Reverse: An image of a waterbuck’s head, surrounded by the national motto in French (UNITE EGALITE PAIX – Unity, Equality, Peace) and the coin’s denomination (5 FR).
