The banknote was printed during the presidency of Gamal Abdel Nasser, who ruled from 1956 to 1970.

Obverse: On the right is a picture of Tutankhamun, and on the left is a picture of the Muhammad Ali Mosque. The words “five pounds” are written between them, and below it is the date of issue, 1957.

Reverse: A statue of the Greek god Nilus (the Nile) with 16 children, symbolizing the 16 branches of the Nile River at that time.
