The currency was issued during the presidency of Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr, who ruled from 1968 to 1979.

Obverse: In the center is written “50 fils,” above it “Republic of Iraq,” and below it is an ear of wheat and a palm frond, symbols of agriculture.

Reverse: A palm tree, and on both sides the date of issue: 1975 AD.

Composition: Nickel and copper.

Weight: 5.6 grams.

Diameter: 23 mm.

Thickness: 1.75 mm.
