الظهر: اغصان شجر بينهما رأسي أسد) وفي الأعلى كتب بالعربية (غرشان ونصف) وفي الأسفل كتب بالإنجليزية (½2 قرش) وفي اسفله كتب تاريخ اصدار العملة سنة 1940 م.

This coin was minted during the French Mandate. Bahij al-Khatib served as interim president (1939-1941) until the appointment of President Taj al-Din al-Hasani in September 1941. This period was marked by martial law and direct French administration during World War II.

Obverse: A circle in the center with the words “State of Syria” written above it and “State of Syria” in French below it.

Reverse: Tree branches with two lion heads between them. At the top, the Arabic inscription reads “Two and a Half Piastres,” and at the bottom, “2.5 Piastres.” Below that, the date of issue is 1940.
