The banknote was printed during the rule of President Muammar Gaddafi, who governed from 1969 to 2011.

 Obverse: Purple and pink on a multicolored background. At the top: “Central Bank of Libya.” On the left: The Libyan emblem. In the center: “Half Libyan Dinar.” At the bottom left: A verse from the Quran. (ولا تأكلوا تمويلكم بينكم بالباطل)
 Reverse: Purple and pink on a multicolored background. / In the center: Petrochemical Industries / And in English script, above and below, it says (Central Bank of Libya) and (Half Dinar).
