It was minted during the reign of Abu al-Muzaffar Arslan Shah ibn Tughril II (1133-1176), a Seljuk sultan appointed ruler of Iraq and Persia. His reign lasted fifteen years and seven months. His era was marked by the influence and dominance of the emir and founder of the Atabegs in Azerbaijan, Shams al-Din al-Daghuz, after the death of Arslan’s father. The Shah’s mother, Mu’mina Khatun, married al-Daghuz, and his uncle, Sultan Mas’ud, took him under his wing. In 1160, Shams al-Din proclaimed Arslan Shah ruler of the Seljuk Sultanate in Iraq
